Gold Standard Whey Protein Review

When looking to buy a good protein you should always first work out what are your goals and what it is you want from a protein shake.

Do you want more carbs for a bulking phase or less carbs for a cutting phase? Do you need creatine for a muscle building power shake? Which ever you chose this process is imperative for you to reach your goals and chose the right shake for you.

You can see above a breakdown of what's in the shake. Firstly, you need to calculate if its not on the tub how much protein there is per 100g don’t get hung up on how much protein there is per serving as this makes no odds, it depends on how large the serving size is. Some brands will do this as a marketing tool to convince you your getting a high protein content per serving.

Anything less than 70% is usually not that great. On the tub of Gold Standard Whey its not that clear unless your decent at maths what the protein content is per 100g so after a short calculation the protein content looks to be around 79g per 100g which is great! The other 21g is made up of carbohydrates, fats, roughage and filler but its very low and not worth considering.

Gold Standard Whey Taste

Firstly, the taste for me is usually unimportant as long as it doesn't make me gag! I'm more concerned about quality than taste. For some people taste is first on the list, so here goes, I've got the double chocolate flavour Gold Standard Whey as I'm sure this will be the most popular. I've added 300ml of water with 1 scoop of protein this obviously depends on your goals or your nutrient timing, you may need 2 scoops, but for this review I'm using 1 scoop in 300ml of water. The taste is not an intense chocolate taste and is also very thin. This I like as I don't like thick gloopy shakes after a hard workout as it can make me feel sick, being thin its much easier to get down and doesn't lay on my stomach like a brick for the next hour or two.

Gold Standard Mix-ability

Mix-ability for me is really important there's nothing worse than big lumps in your shake that haven't dissolved, you usually get this if you mix your shake with milk. This product seems to mix seamlessly with milk or water which is great!

Gold Standard Whey Results

Obviously results are slow, and you need to use a product consistently over a period of months. Saying that there are some great quick wins, this product for me tastes good and mixes well and also doesn't make me feel bloated and no unwanted gas! You can also be assured that the product has a great pedigree coming from Glanbia one of the best names in the business.
